Rakops River Lodge - General

Rakops River Lodge makes use of solar power for lighting and for television, fridges, freezers, boosting pump and general outdoor lighting. The standby generation is only used during rainy days and for ironing. All rooms are equipped with air-conditioning and these are functional when the generator is in operation.

In an attempt to be as environmentally friendly as possible, the use of the generator is limited. It is unfortunate to inform visitors that the solar power does not provide enough electricity for gadgets such as laptops and hairdryers. The AC-power plugs are square and are functional only when the generator is in operation.

A stay at Rakops River Lodge will certainly be a very pleasant experience. Rakops loves the beautiful natural environment and therefore takes care of their surroundings. However, customers can still enjoy the major luxuries that they would expect from a lodge much closer to big cities. Rakops River Lodge is looking forward to welcome you.

The Location

About 7 km northwest from Rakops in Botswana you will find the Rakops Lodge - or more correctly known, the Rakops River Lodges. The lodge is only 45 km from the Matswere Gate of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve and 60 km from Kumaga Gate of the Makgadikgadi National Park. Lake Xau about 60 km away and all the rivers in the Okavango Delta, such as the Thamalakane River, end at the lake.

Accommodation

Visitors can choose between individually thatched guestrooms with shower and flat screen television or camping facilities. The rooms are small, but spotlessly clean and very well equipped. DStv is available at the lodge. There is also a restaurant that offers full breakfast. Lunch and dinner are served on request.

The campsite is modern, with each campsite boasting a lapa (traditional fireplace). The ablution blocks offer hot showers and modern clean toilets according to international standards.

Activities

The Rakops River Lodge is surrounded by short Setshi bush and Candle Thorn bush. They are often visited by the Makgadikgadi elephants during winter.
