NAMIBIA LODGES
Most visits to Sossuvlei will start in Walvisbay where you will land. From there you will most likely visit Swakopmund with its German architecture and great variety of accommodation ranging from hotels to self-catering.
Sossusvlei Lodge is an upmarket and luxury lodge only a few km from Sossusvlei Desert Camp. It is our sister lodge and you are allowed to have your meals there if you stay at Desert Camp.
Grunau Country House is the best place to stay overnight if you drive from Cape Town to Sossusvlei.
Canon Lodge is to the south of Sossusvlei at the Fish River Canyon in Namibia and
Twyfelfontein Country Lodge is still in the Namib desert but to the north in Kaokoland or Damaraland, near the petrified forest at the famous Twyfelfontein rock paintings. To the East of Twyfelfontein and two day's drive from Sossusvlei is the Etosha National park where you can stay at Etosha Lodge just south of the park or at Halali in the central part of the park.
After your visit to Etosha you can visit the Caprivi which is two day's from Sossusvlei Desert Camp. You can select accommodation from Caprivi Accommodation such as Kwando Camp, Mazambala Island Lodge, Lianshulu and Ngepi Camp.
BOTSWANA
Perhaps you would like to visit Botswana after you visit to Namibia and Sossusvlei. The best might be to fly to Gaborone and to hire a vehicle from Temba Car Hire. Spent you first night at Cresta Lodge in Gaborone Botswana. This lodge is one of the most popular hotels in the CBD. From Gaborone you can drive to Botswana second city and then overnight at Woodlands Stop over is near Francistown. They offer offers self-catering (self-contained) accommodation.
Alternatively drive from sossuvlei via Windhoek to Maun the gateway to the Okavango Delta. Here you can stay in either Riley's Hotel or Thamalakane River lodge. Both these lodges are the banks of the Thamalakane River and the perfect place to prepare yourself for the Okavango Delta Safari. An Okavango Delta Safari is for most people a once in a lifetime experience. Select the lodge or lodges to suit your needs.
ZIMBABWE
Although Namibia borders on Zimbabwe in the Caprivi most people fly between the countries. if you plan to travel by road from Sossusvlei Desert Camp to Zimbabwe allow at least three days to do so. You will most likely enter the country at Victoria Falls and the Desert camp strongly recommends A'Zambezi River lodge,the only hotel on the banks of the Zambezi River as your accommodation there. From Victoria Falls you will drive along the southern shores of lake Kariba to the town of Kariba. Spent two nights at Kulizwe Lodge in Binga before you continue you trip to
Caribbea Bay Hotel the most luxurious hotel on the riviera of Southern Africa. Make sure that you include a few nights in Fothergill Island a luxurious lodge on an island in Lake Kariba. The island is in the Matusadona National Park near the southern shores.
From Kariba you will drive south to Mavingo and the Great Zimbabwe monument. Sossusvlei Desert Camp suggest two nights at Norma Jeane's Lakeview Resort They offers both excellent hotel accommodation and very spacious self-catering (self-contained) accommodation near Masvingo in Zimbabwe.
SOUTH AFRICA
